- Inform your provider if you have a history of melasma or are awaiting results from a skin cancer screening.

One Week Before Treatment

- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements such as ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E, and fish oil unless prescribed.

500 mg twice daily starting 1 day before treatment and continuing 7 days.
Day of Treatment
- Arrive with clean skin — no makeup, lotion, or sunscreen.
- Reschedule if you are ill, recently on antibiotics, or have a rash, cold sore, or infection in the treatment area.
Note: Numbing cream will be applied 30 minutes before your session.
Immediately After Treatment (Day 1)

with BBL, more swelling can be expected and may last 2-4 days. - Do not wash your face until the next morning.
- Use a cold compress as needed for comfort.
- Avoid active ingredients and makeup for 24 hours post-treatment.
- Do not scratch, rub, or pick at the skin.
- Check our tips to help with swelling.
- Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar will be applied in-office. Apply again at bedtime and then twice
daily for at least 2 weeks. This does not take the place of a moisturizer.
Days 2-7
- Cleanse gently twice daily with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser; avoid exfoliants, scrubs. (we
recommend SKNV Face so Fresh sold in-office) - Apply Bounce Back Skin Restoring Gel twice daily (available for purchase in office).
- Apply physical sunscreen (SPF 30+) daily and reapply during sun exposure. Our favorites, most sold in
office are Alastin HydraTint or SilkSHIELD, Elta UV Physical, Core Ultra Shield, Vanicream - Tylenol may be taken for discomfort; antihistamines (Benadryl, Claritin, Zyrtec) may help with itching or swelling.
Expect MENDs: Microscopic epidermal necrotic debris appearing as tiny dark dots and a rough texture. These will naturally slough off within several days. Avoid picking or exfoliating.
After One Week
- Resume your usual skincare routine if skin feels fully healed.
- Gradually reintroduce active ingredients like retinol.
- Continue daily use of sunscreen to maintain results and prevent pigmentation.
Tips for swelling
- Ice for about 5 minutes every hour after your treatment until bedtime, then a couple times the next morning. Move packs around over areas to avoid over-icing, which can worsen swelling.
- Take Benadryl (25-50mg) the night of treatment.
- If there is severe swelling you may request a three-day course of oral prednisone, which can be called in during the first 1-2 days after treatment.
- Consider taking Arnica Montana 30x starting 1-2 days before treatment and continue taking it until the bruising and swelling have subsided. Take 3 tablets, 3 times daily.
Important: Place tablets under the tongue and let dissolve. Do not brush your teeth, eat, or drink anything but water, 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after taking Arnica Montana.
- Ibuprofen 800mg every 8 hours in combination with the other items above can assist with swelling but may worsen any preexisting bruising, so take it only if bruising is not present.
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated the first 1–2 nights to minimize swelling.
